TruCUT RDWorks Prep Images for Engraving in Gimp (Part 4) Cut and Engrave Mini-Series

rdworks engraving gimp

When it comes to free alternatives to the very popular program Photoshop, there’s few that will do.

The GNU Image Manipulating Program (Gimp) is by far the closest you will get to Photoshop, there are a few other options out there, but not all of them keeps the advance power that you get with Gimp.

This video is part of a Mini-Series.
Next video covers EP – Within Gimp P2.

Video Transcript

are you guys? In today's video, we're gonna be looking at how to prep your image for engraving using a free programme called Gimp. But before that, let's have a quick intro first. Mm. So today's video can be found on softwaretraining.co.za Today we make sure that easy to watch problem solving videos and also daily updates otherwise, back on the programme here Now, In the previous few videos, we looked at prepping image in Photoshop. Then I mentioned that we will also be looking at doing it in a free alternative programme which in this case will be gimp. Uh, if you want to download it, you just had to, um gimp dot org It is 100% free. You don't need to give them any email. Sign up. Nothing like that. You just go download, save it and instal it. There is a lot of content online on learning how to use a programme. I will not be covering that, but in many ways is very similar to Photoshop. So the first thing you wanna do, however, is open your image. I'm gonna go file open or you can just drag and drop it. If you know where it's located, put it in here. And then, like in the previous video, I'm just gonna quickly crop this so that we're only working with the actual engraving part of the image. Then once we have that done, I'm going to create a folder here on the bottom or on a the bottom of the layers panel. So I click a new group folder, move this image in there, and then what I wanna do is change this image, remove its colour. So I'm gonna go get on top of colour, you saturation, and then take the saturation level all the way down. Now it is black and white like before. The next time I want to duplicate this layer, as you guys can see, there's a little can you with too little windows, you can say it is for duplicating the top one selected. We want to make the colour mode or the mode of the layer, and we want to change this to Dodge provided with colour Dodge. Now, just be Dutch, So we'll see. We get a similar fact there. Then we're gonna do is go to colour on top of my menu again and say Invert. So now, as you can see, it looks very similar to what we had before in Photoshop. Like I said, the process is very similar. Just a few differences, then next up, we want to go to philtre blur Gaussian blur once again. Just adjust this to the amount you like this leave. These settings are more sensitive than Photoshop, so just keep that in mind, and you can find a just they told you. Have something you like. I think I'm gonna get about 2.14. Okay. And then, uh, I want to make a new layer, which is your next to new groups as the first icon here, which is quite smart. I'm sure Photoshop puts everything other way around. I find this actually more convenient for some reason. Then we're gonna go to our paintbrush, which is every year on our latest panel. Your programme might look a bit different being on your ui, but yeah, select your paintbrush like before. Make sure your colours right. If for some reason it is black, can somebody to keep controlling and click anywhere with white or click on that block just did to white. Then, like I mentioned before, the reason why we're working on a new layer, transparent one. So if we actually painting over here, we don't want gone. Let's just go to R Razor Tool and then we can erase that out and have it fixed again. Then to adjust the actual paintbrush, paintbrush, size and the process, I think we'll be covering in another video. Seeing this video is running a bit long, but yeah, I mean, while we head here to softwaretraining.co.za. You guys don't notice you've got a variety of different Softwares will recover, and also you can isolate your search on the top, right? If you do not, however, find the videos you're looking for. Jessica requested training video. Fill in a mini form. Then we will try our best to make that video for you. But otherwise thanks guys for watching and cheers
